Simple Air Roll to Elastic Cooling Roll

Simple Air Roll to Elastic Cooling Roll

Air roll was developed about 20 years ago.
It was very simple structure.  The outside is a metal sleeve and inside air pressure is kept.
It has metal surface, yet possess elasticity like rubber.
Test unit to compare  "rigid cooling roll (front)" and
"elastic cooling roll  with a chiller (back)"
However, requirements are getting higher and more difficult in production of plastic sheets and films now.
To this needs DYMCO succeeded to set a rubber roll inside the metal sleeve so that the air roll can stand different pressure.

Popular rigid rolls, their thickness is 7 to 8mm, very thick.
The metal sleeve thickness of our elastic rolls is only 0.2 to 0.3mm.
Thin surface brings superior heat transfer efficiency.
Also with nipping by thin metal, contact surface between the roll and film becomes wider.
All these contribute to cooling efficiency.
We see a possibility that the cooling line becomes shorter.

Cyridical Seamless Replica Mold for the Nano-imprint Stamper

I have been always suffering from a seasonal allergy at this time of year, and I have been spending my days enduring my runny nose and itchy eyes again this year.
The forecast suggests that more pollen is observed this year than average.
The range of pollen's diameter is from 10μm to several dozen μm. It is so fine that they are invisible for human eyes, but, they are spread into the atmosphere.

By the way, we have been introducing this so frequently on our blogs these days though, Dymco is focusing on the production of replica molds for applications such as nanoimprint molds.

This replica mold suggests replacing an expensive master roll by a "disposable" replica which is precisely duplicated from a master mold. The master mold has engraved patterns on its surface. They are several μm to several tens μm deep and wide, which are invisible to human eyes just like the pollen. It is a new technology that can protect the master mold from consumption or damage.

The shape of the master mold can be precisely duplicated. (seamless)

Instability in the quality of the mold can be reduced by duplicating from the best master mold.
The cost of duplication is reasonable compared to that of producing a new master mold - mass production is possible

Micro pattern sleeves

Recently, it is increasing for us to provide moulds for nanoinprint with micro patterned surface.

Thickness of sleeve is around 0.05mm~0.3mm and materials are Nickel or SUS.

A process to make a master mould, sleeve is pressed fit onto an axis and polish as mirror surface.
After the sleeve is polished, it is curved micro pattern on the surface.

However, this means needs high precision machine tools and takes much time.

Also, the master moulds have lifetime so it is necessary to have a few moulds for mass production.
We have invented a new solution to make copy mould which is totally same as its master with transfer the micro pattern twice.
It does not cost like making new moulds by curving.

Example of micro patterned thin metal sleeve

The picture is an example but we could have smaller pattern recently.
We coat
electroless nickel plating on nickel sleeve first and curve after press fit the sleeve onto an axis.
The patterned sleeve is used with pressed fit onto an axis of mass production machine.
To press fit, a specific skill is necessary so we usually manufacture the axis as well.
We deal with sleeves and axes for trial or mass production.

Web handling rolls #3 of 4 : Pattern-transcription sleeve

The third handling roll is a patterned mold roll.
This is to form minute patterns on plastic film and sheet surface.
Cylindrical thin-wall sleeve has patterns on its surface and
This sleeve is set onto the core air madrell.
As this roll continuously rotates, patterning is available on the roll to roll basis. This improves production efficiency over the process on sheet-to sheet basis.
