Plastic Film Cooling by a Face Touch Roll

Plastic Film Cooling by a Face Touch Roll

Dymco has started to work from home as a measure against COVID-19.
We continue to hold regular meetings inside our company by Microsoft  Teams.
We attend them from home, completely avoiding contacts among members and spread of virus.
On the other hand, we have no choice but to come to the office for on-site works like improvements and evaluation of devices.
We would like to work on development themes efficiently,
although it is not certain how long this situation goes on.

Once in this blog I introduced Dymco's "cooling roll."
This roll is tripled.  From the outer surface, there are a thin electroformed sleeve, cooling water and rubber.
Cooling water flows in clearance between the outside sleeve and rubber.
This rubber covers the core of this roll.

When this roll is pressed against the cooling target, the outside thin sleeve is pressed and creats face touch.
The performance depends on how much this face contact area is obtained.
In addition, we need to obtain data how much heat is removed by this roll.
So we are working to prepare evaluation equipment like the one in the picture below.
Cooling Test by Our Cooling Roll

We delivered φ100 × 950L for trial so far.
Now larger size is possible.
There is size restrictions in electroformed sleeves.

Polished Metal Sleeves

Polished Metal Sleeves

One of our product line up is thin wall metal sleeve.  Thickness 0.1 to 0.3mm.
We can polish its surface up to Rz 0.1μm and less, same as JIS-‘01.
Much higher value of Rz is OK.
Also surface roughness and waves can be discussed.
The picture below is a polishsed Nickel seamless sleeve.

Polished Nickel Seamless Sleeve

In this picture we can find dots of a surface stone plate,
but those dots are not reflected on the inner surface.
The outer surface is finer than the inner surface
Further polishing is possible on this outer surface.  We also polish stainless steel sleeves.
Our polishing range and specs are flexible.

For details please contact overeas@dymco.co.jp for detailas.
We can offer various levels of polishing including limited area of polishing.

10-Micron Thick Nickel Elctro-Formed Seamless Belt

10-Micron Thick Nickel Elctroformed Seamless Belt

Thickness is controlled in micron order.
Completely seamless cylinder.
These re features of our Nickel electroformed belts.

How are these benefits wonderful?
As rigidity is proportional to the cube of the thickness,
the thinner steel belt can go around the smaller diameter pulleys.
Belts are tensile and capable to accept bending stress.

Our stainless steel welded belts, thickness ranges 0.05t~0.6t (mm).
However, this time we challenged thinner belts by electroforming and made a sample of thickness only 10 microns.

The belt goes along with a rod of Φ5mm

Nickel Seamless Belt Sample 0.01t×100W×380L

10-micron thick

What will be applications of this belt?

A belt in a limited space such as in micro machines
Knife-edge, very small R belt
Thin-wall cylinder shell
Electromagnetic wave shielding films
Special molding dies

We will develop electroforming technology of Nickel belts.

Highly-Functional Film Expo Tokyo Show 2019

Highly-Functional Film Expo Tokyo Show 2019

We thank all of you for your coming to DYMCO at this show on Dec. 4 to 6.

There espetially cylinder-type pattern molds below caught attention.

In this picture the original rigid mold sits on the left.  We call it Mother.
There are fine patterns on its surface.
From Mother we make copies.

First we copy patterns from outside of Mother.
That sits in the middle.
Patterns are copied on the inside surface of this cilynder.

Then we copy these patterns again.
The result is three cylinders on the right.
Patterns are copied on the outer surface.  They look gray in the picture.
No seam on the entire surface!

This way oce Mother is made, Mother copies are made, too,
resultiing in substantial cost decrease.

Now the present diameter is 120mm.
Please contact us for these molds.

Features of Metal Belts

Features of Metal Belts

Today we review basic features of steel belts.
The chart below is  comparison with elastic plastic and rubber belts.

Here we find clearly standing features of metal belts.
These good things may help issues or problems when using plastic or rubber belts.

Of course we know that metal belts have also weak points like belt life and wear powders.

Heat Transfer by Surface Contact / Dimco Cooling Roll for film forming

Heat Transfer by Surface Contact / Dymco Cooling Roll for film forming

The Japanese people are becoming great rugby fans, enjoying every match of Rugby World Cup 2019 held in Japan.
It is a big news for us that Japan could join the best 8 teams for the first time.

Now back to DYMCO products, I introduce “Cooling Roll” today.
This is a special product in a way that the outer surface is has a thin-walled cylindrical metal sleeve completely seamless, without any seam.  Inside this sleeve lies a rubber-coated roll.

Cooling water circulates In this clearance between the outside metal seamless roll and the inside rubber roll.

The cooling capacity depends on how much contact area can be gained when this cooling roll is pressed against the object to be cooled (usually a rigid roll).

Currently, we are setting parts and units to watch the actual heat transfer performance
and are making further improvements to meet the demands of users.

The upper roll is our cooling roll and the lower roll is a hard rigid roll

We have provided φ100 x 950L to a user for trial.
The larger size is producible.
Cooling roll size is sometimes restricted by size of the outer metal seamless sleeve.
But we welcome your questions and are looking forward to discussions with you.

DYMCO's Precision Welded Tubes

Dymco’s stainless steel endless belts are manufactured by the highly skilled precision welding technology. Regardless of the materials’ thickness, Dymco’s stainless steel belts are not lap-welded, but butt-welded.

Applying its highly skilled welding technology, Dymco manufactures welded tubes with the very high dimensional precision.
The pictures below are a doubled tube; Inner dimeter of the outer tube is φ300.03+/-0.01mm. The inner tube is inserted inside the outer tube, of which outer dimeter is the φ300.00+/-0.01mm. There is no clearance between inner and outer tubes. The both tubes are 0.2mm thick and tolerances for inner/outer diameter is +/-0.01mm.

Each tube has only one weld seam in circumference.

Outer tube: IDφ300.03mm

Inner tube: ODφ300.00mm

Dymco’s welded tubes features very thin wall, flexibility, and light weight. Therefore, these tubes are frequently used as covers.
Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in Dymco’s precision thin-wall welding technology.

An Option to Replace Plastic Disposables: Thin Metal Cylinder

In April this year, Nikkei, one of the Japanese leading newspapers, reported,
"P&G and other firms try reuse of metal containers.
An action to reduce plastics in daily necessities."

Most liquid detergent and shampoo / rinse containers are made of plastic.
But being sought are using recycled plastic and changing to metal containers that can be used repeatedly.

Challenge of P&G:  Aluminum bottles in NewYork and Paris

Look at the picture below.

Stainless Sleeve, thickness 30 microns

For welded metal cylinders, we can contol their dimeter by 0.1mm .

These technologies to make thin metal cylinders may assist to replace plastic containers.
