Another tracking method is EPC. Belt position is watched by sensors.

When sensors find that the belt is out of track, pulley shaft is moved to adjust tension on both belt width edges.

EPC is especially important when the operating temperature is over 150 degrees.

In the room temperature crown pulleys are used. Up to 150degrees V-guide is available.

But V-guide does not stand heat over 150 degrees.

V-guide or V-rope is another method for tracking. When driving pulley axis and driven pulley axis are set in parallel and V-guide is forwarded straight, a belt does not wind.

V-guide is made of rubber. Chloroprene(CR) and silicon rubber are standard material. Nitrile rubber (NBR) can be an option.

Crown pulley is the most popular tracking method for steel belts. For example, when pulley diameter is 100mmand belt size is thickness 0.2mm and width 200mm, curvature radius is R50,000.

This is same as crown height 0.1mm.It is significantly minute compared with millimeter-order crown height for plastic and rubber belts.

Yet crown pulley sometimes does not work, when belts are very thick, very wide, very long, or due to other factors such as conveyor structure and assembly precision.

Due consideration should be paid to tracking in choice of belts. When a belt does not move straight in running direction, it may come off pulleys and rotation halts. When we talk about endless belts without perforation, very popular tracking method is ‘crown pulley.’ We do not recommend flange pulleys. It is true that when belt width is just around 10 to 20mm, tracking is done by flange pulleys. But in general belt width edges are damaged by flanges.

Previously I received an inquiry from one customer: " Is it possible to install the work guide at both ends of the steel belt surface? Because the work is a globe shape so it is easy to spilt from the belt."

It is very difficult for the material to paste and apply the work guide to the total length for the steel belt surface as it is made of the stainless steel (metal).

However, silicon rubber was put on both ends of the surface of the steel belt after many Tests and we served it to the customer.

Recently I have bought a kitchen knife at the department store in Yokohama. Roughly the kitchen knives are made of the Stainless steel or Steel.

Shop clerk’s recommendation was the Steel kitchen knife. Actually this steel knife has wonderful sharpness, not heavy and also the design was classic and beautiful. But the weak point is easy to rust.

For Stainless Steel knives, it is easy to care because the stainless steel doesn't rust. However, on this time I bought a Steel knife because I was attracted by its wonderful sharpness. I used several times and every time I should wipe it beautifully after use. I will buy the stainless steel kitchen knife next time.

Here in Yokohama, it has become considerably cold. Winter is a painful season for me as I am exceedingly sensitive to the cold weather.

Hi, I am Rhyce from Dymco Shanghai. This week I will turn to a type of steel belt – Open Stainless Steel Belt. As you can see, literally it stands for steel belts that are not endless, with open ends.

Dymco open stainless steel belt is famous for high rigidity and excellence in response to high speed, which will enormously improve the performance of machinery. Hello again, this is Rhyce from Dymco Shanghai. In a chilly winter day with driving rain, US President Obama flied to Shanghai at the midnight of yesterday. Uh, I will keep my fingers crossed for the President a better weather during his first China visiting. This week let’s talk about pumice, Hess Pumice, which also comes from the US.

Pumice is composed of highly micro-vesicular glass pyroclastic with very thin, translucent bubble walls of extrusive igneous rock. Pumice is commonly pale in color. Pumice is a common product of explosive eruptions and commonly forms zones in upper parts of silicic lavas. Pumice has an average porosity of 90%, and initially floats on water.

Pumice is widely used to make lightweight concrete or insulative low-density breeze blocks. When used as an additive for cement, a fine-grained version of pumice called pozzolan is mixed with lime to form a light-weight, smooth, plaster-like concrete. This form of concrete was used as far back as Roman times.

In China, pumice is widely used in industry, such as eye glasses grinding and polishing, circuit board prep and polishing. Dymco Shanghai is the sole agency selling Hess Pumice in China. Almost all the PCB manufacturers in southern and eastern China use Hess Pumice in their production lines. Dymco Shanghai is thriving to explore and expand more industrial uses of pumice.

Nihao, here’s Rhyce again, from Shanghai. This week let’s talk about conveyor which is widely applied in the industry. If someone mentions ‘belt’, the word ‘conveyor’ might pop up instantly if you are familiar with engineering.

A belt conveyor consists of two or more pulleys, with an endless loop of material, conveyor belt, rotating about them. One or both of the pulleys are powered, moving the belt and the material on the belt forward. The powered pulley is called the drive pulley while the unpowered pulley is called the idler.

Conveyors are used as components in automated distribution and it is considered a labor saving system with less labor expense. Belt conveyors are the most commonly used powered conveyors because they are the most versatile and the least expensive. Product is conveyed directly on the belt so both regular and irregular shaped objects, large or small, light and heavy, can be transported successfully. These conveyors should use only the highest quality premium belting products, which reduces belt stretch and results in less maintenance for tension adjustments.

I’m Minami of the steel belt company, Dymco. Needless to say, our main product is a steel belt.
Though there are various kinds of steel, it is stainless steels that our company handles.

Stainless steels are the alloy steels that added the metal "Chrome" to "Iron" by 12% or more.

Apart from silicon crystalline modules, there are flexible solar sheets that can be attached to bending surface of buildings. These sheets are produced by roll to roll continuous flow.

Please consider metal belt or metal roller as one of optional parts in roll to roll process, if you think nipping between rollers is very important.
As you know we deal with very thin metal belts.
We make use of this thin metal belt and make it a nipping roll.
Surface of this nipping roll is thin metal and inside is air. So we call it ‘air roll.’
This structure results in nipping when this roll touches with another hard roll.

Fluoroplastic-coated stringer belt

Tabber and stringer connect crystalline cells and make them a line. Later these lines are further connected and a module is formed.

Crystalline cells and electrically conductive lead are set and soldered in tabber and stringer, where steel belts are perforated for aligning cells by suction and also fluoroplastic-coated to get a line of cells removed smoothly after soldering. Steel belts withstand more than 200 degrees of Pb-free soldering.

Silicon ingots are sliced down and wafers come out.Wafer thickness is generally 0.15mm or less. They are easily damaged if you just slightly bend them.

Handling of these wafers and solar cells is very delicate as it is in semiconductor production. But it must be cared till they are made modules including adding circuits and connecting cells.
Smooth and flat surface of steel belts is evaluated in this process. Sometimes perforated steel belts are employed to position wafers and cells precisely by suction.

This series introduce how steel belts are used in solar power generation and photovoltaic generation.

Let us begin with mono- and multi- crystalline cells and modules, the most popular generation method in this field.

Solar cells are made from silicon. Silicon ingot is made in a kiln and then cut into some segments in a cutting machine. This cutting is done by diamond-electrode bandsaw and its substrate is a steel belt. Bandsaw of circumference 3230mm is driven very fast, about 21 meters per second, and makes 6 to 7 rotations per second. Steel belts are such tensile to withstand countless number of rapid rotations.

After this process each segment is further cut down into wafer.
